Setting up Wi-Fi on the iPhone: Use Your iPhone to Browse the iTunes Store

                                                                   Using Wi-Fi on the iPhone

Many users typically use their computer to browse the iTunes Store in order to purchase and download things like: songs, audiobooks, videos, and apps before syncing to the iPhone. This method is absolutely fine as long as you have the time to sit in front of your computer. However, there are times when you'll want the freedom to roam around your home with just your iPhone for accessing the iTunes Store (and surfing the Internet of course).
If you are away from home and don't have direct access to a computer, the iPhone's Wi-Fi capabilities can be a real boon too. If you are at a friend's home for example and are using their Internet connection via Wi-Fi then this facility becomes even more essential if you discover an awesome new song that you need to download from iTunes without delay. Rather than having to wait until you get back home (and possibly forgetting the name of the newly discovered track), you can instantly purchase it and download straight to your iPhone.

By default, the iPhone (including the iPod Touch and iPad) has Wi-Fi enabled, but you will need to do a certain amount of configuring -- especially when connecting to an encrypted Wi-Fi network. To setup a Wi-Fi connection using your iPhone, the tutorial steps below will quickly show you how.

Locating the iPhone's Wi-Fi Settings Screen

Before doing anything, you will need to know where to find the iPhone's Wi-Fi settings. To do this, ensure your Apple device is powered on and follow these steps:
On the iPhone's Home Screen, tap the Settings icon.
Look down the options list on the Settings screen and tap the Wi-Fi sub-menu.
Check to make sure Wi-Fi is enabled on the Wi-Fi Networks screen. If it isn't, use the slider button to turn it on.
Choosing and Joining a Wi-Fi Network

Under the Choose a Network... section, tap on the name of the Wi-Fi network you want to join. If the network you want to connect to is encrypted (recommended), then you will see a padlock icon next to its name. If this is the case, then you'll need to know the pass phrase. If it's your own Wi-Fi network, then you can look up this password if you can't remember it by logging into your router.
Type in the password for the Wi-Fi network if necessary and tap the Join button.
Checking Your iPhone's Wi-Fi Connection

To verify that you can access the Internet and browse the iTunes Store over the Wi-Fi network you have joined, follow these steps:
The first thing to check is that you have a good Wi-Fi signal (represented by a fan-shaped icon in the top left-hand corner of the iPhone's screen. Alternatively, you can also see this icon in the Wi-Fi settings screen. If you've got a strong signal, then you will see 3 bands that make up this icon -- a weaker signal will be displayed as either 2 or less bands.
To check that you can access the online iTunes Store and browse, start by pressing the iPhone's Home button to get back to the main screen.
Tap the iTunes app icon. If you aren't already in the iTunes Store, tap the Music button (musical note icon) to make sure you have a fully working Internet connection.
